Macbook Pro August 2017 Ports

Are all these 4 ports the same? I had a MBP before where the several USB ports were not the same, USB USB 2.1 etc. I don't remember the exact naming but they were different USB ports.

Thank You

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)

the macbook pro TB has either two or four (depending on the model you purchase) identical USB-C type ports and no other ports. The power adapter is USB-C, you can not use a mag-safe adapter, and any existing USB device you have will need a converter

or need to be replaced with a USB-C version of the required product.

Hello Amalekone,

No, the ports are not necessarily the same. It depends on which machine you are talking about. Look at this Apple Support document for more details: Connect with Thunderbolt 3 on your new MacBook Pro - Apple Support

Specifically, look at this part:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) supports Thunderbolt 3 at full performance using the two left-hand ports. The two right-hand ports deliver Thunderbolt 3 functionality, but have reduced PCI Express bandwidth.

Always plug higher-performance devices into the left-hand ports on MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) for maximum data throughput.

They use the same connector, and are the same when using USB, HOWEVER, they are not all exactly the same on all models when using Thunderbolt.

On ONLY the Macbook Pro 13" touch bar model, two of the ports have higher bandwidth than the other two when using Thunderbolt 3.

Thank You ! This is a very useful info not being provided to the average user. What comes to the mind is that in times of internet or any kind of data going through the power-wallplugs already is, how can I be sure that instead of power only, maybe data is being sent through one of these? I mean if I plug in the powerplug to my USB3.1 (power/data) coming from a wall-plug that can be also used as data connection, how can I be sure that this obvious open gate is not being utilized/weaponized?

Thank You
