help with slope of a line/charts in numbers
iMac, Mac OS X (10.1.x)
What you are looking for is to force the intercept of the line to 0. Numbers does not have the ability to create that as a trendline in a chart but you can create this trendline yourself. In your table, include a column that has the Y data for the trendline. The slope is given by the LINEST formula with "force 0 value" selected (3rd parameter in formula = 0 or false).
Formula in E2 = LINEST(C2:C5,B2:B5,FALSE,FALSE)
This gives the slope of a straight line best fit with the intercept forced to zero
Format the cell to 2 decimals (or 4 if you want to see 4)
Formula in D2 = B2×E$2
Because the Y intercept is zero, no need to include it in the Y=MX+B formula
Fill down to complete the column
Formula in D1 = "Y = "&E2&" * X"
By formatting E2 to 2 decimals you get a 2 decimal "3.63"
Include this new column in your chart. Set the datapoint to "none", give it straight connecting lines, and give whatever line style you want.
