Anyone using SiriusXM successfully with CARPLAY?

I use CARPLAY under the Cadillac CUE system. Almost every time I select the SiriusXM app on the CARPLAY screen I run into problems. Sometimes all my Favorites aren't listed. When I select a channel all I see is a spinning wheel and nothing more. Other times the channel will come up on the screen but won't play. I try using the Forward button to go to the next song/title but that doesn't work either. When I get home what I think is contributing to the problem is the loss of audio/recovering audio for the channel and the smartphone is waiting for me to select RETRY.

The hardest channel to listen to is Cinemagic. All in all its very frustrating.

Hello jghiller,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use a certain app with CarPlay and your iPhone in your Cadillac. To help with this issue, please make sure you have followed all the steps from this Apple resource on CarPlay.

If CarPlay doesn't work like you expect, here’s what you can check. After each step, try using CarPlay again.

  1. Make sure that Siri is turned on.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car. Depending on your car, you might see the CarPlay Home screen when you turn it on. If you don't, look for the CarPlay logo on your car’s display.
  3. If possible, connect your iPhone to a different USB port in your car.
  4. Try a different Lightning to USB cable. Make sure that the cable is certified.
  5. Update to the latest version of iOS.
  6. Check your car’s manual for help. You might need to install firmware updates for your stereo.

I did confirm, and I notified SiriusXM, that in order to use their app under CarPlay and select it from the left side menu, you first have to open the iOS app first, then when you bring up CarPlay the app will work. Just selecting SiriusXM from the CarPlay menu wont bring it up active on your phone if you dont have it open/active. And as far as I know, SIRI has never been able to open the app for me.

Everything as outlined is setup OK. I am using the SiriusXM iOS app at the CARPLAY level for the product. When I select the app from the left side bar and choose a favorite channel, I often will see a wheel turning but usually nothing happens. i often have to keep trying and sometimes select a different channel to play. I think some of the issue is within the Cinemagic channel as it often loses the audio connection and if you were using it with BT you would see the 'trying to recover audio' prompt and rertry prompt. Other times the channel will start but nothing will play unless I forward space the entry being played and just bang away at it until it finally works. Overall I think it just the complexity of CUE in my car coupled with the iOS app and the channel being selected. There is not a lot of people using this app to know what may be the root cause. But if I lose the audio connection, there is no way to respond to the prompts from the app.

All in all I dont think SiriusXM is fully ready for reliable CARPLAY.
