Insanely high, frequent ping latency to gateway over wifi

These ping latencies are insane. It's pinging my gateway and I'm sitting two feet away from my wifi router. RSSI is -36dbM vs -100 for noise. This problem shows up with multiple routers, not just the one I pulled these numbers from. The behavior is uncorrelated with the performance metrics in the screenshot below.

Advanced Wi-Fi modern Routers with multiple antennas uses beam-forming to "shape" the signal for optimum reception at a modest distance away from your Router.

But in my opinion, in the case you document above, you are too close to your Router to allow the beams to form correctly, and your signal is so "loud" that it may be overwhelming the receiver. I suggest you increase the distance computer-to-Router to five feet or more.

also, what Channel and what PHY Mode is in use?
