IMAP and SMTP protocol in Mail Server

Hello,

I have a Mac mini late 2014 with MacOS HighSierra and I would like to turn it into a mail server. Now I'm hosting my mail server in a Raspberry Pi with citadel.

I have read that sometimes the Apple Mail server doesn't work with IMAP protocol in other devices like Windows Computer and Android Phones. is it true?

That's my problem: most of my user have an apple device or they're using the webmail but other (without an Apple ID) use outlook or gmail app for android, outlook for windows or spark mail for macOS; with this application the mail server works? can I proceed with this upgrade?

Thanks

Mac mini, OS X Server

Definitely not true. macOS Server uses dovecot and postfix, two of the most popular *NIX open source mail servers available (IMAP and SMTP respectively) Works a treat with any and every device I've encountered. If you're using older versions of Outlook (> 10 years), you might have to do a bit of tweaking to postfix's files to enable fully secure sending (enabling legacy port 465), but if it's remotely modern, there'll be no issues (TLS over 587).
