Thanks for this. I have to say it's a bit annoying as I was hoping I could play my library and update play counts, last played etc when listening to homepod. Some of the time it doesn't even play my library songs even when I ask it to. I wonder if they will fix it?

It doesn't seem to, and that is very annoying. My solution for now is to Airplay from my Mac to the Homepod because iTunes on the Mac does update the play count.
I have lots of smart playlists on my Mac. Homepod does not seem to honor the rules I have applied to those smart playlists. Sometimes Apple makes me sad.
Not at the moment, although playcount updating from shared devices in general seems to be somewhat broken lately so it might not be a HomePod issue per se.

Agreed. This is just what I am doing. I didn't expect it was going to have to be just another Airplay speaker. I wrote to them about it.
does homepod update playcounts?
