safari problems with Natwest login

I have had problems logging in to my natwest online banking since upgrade to Sierra. I get the following error message

"Safari can't open the page "https:/nwolb.com/default.asap" because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes and then try again"

No success with retry If a restart my iMac the first login is successful but subsequently the identical problem happens. I have allowed cookies and have no restrictions on my searches All my other searches are OK and I can login with Firefox or Google Chrome. Any suggestions what the problem might be?

iMac, Mac OS 9.1.x

Try New Private Window and start with entering your customer number. This worked for me 1st and 2nd time.

I get various JavaScript errors without using incognito mode where it shows various errors:

SyntaxError: Unexpected token '&'

Failed to load resource: An SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made.

[Error] Failed to load resource: The network connection was lost. (login.aspx, line 0)

[Error] XMLHttpRequest cannot load https://wup-6a1d7b63.eu.v2.we-stats.com/client/v3/web/wup?cid=fixer due to access control checks. (x7)

etc.

Works fine on Chrome.
