My brand new AirPods (four days old) last about 2 to 2 1/2 hours before I begin getting those sounds letting me know they are nearly out of power. And then, one by one, they simply stop working. That happens after about 2 hours. A good bit of it is talk time (if that makes a difference). Is this normal? Or am I cranky and overly demanding? Thanks for any suggestions. -Jeff

Talk time would make a difference. Apple claims that you can get up to 5 hours battery life, and their testing conditions are as follows:
Testing conducted by Apple in August 2016 using preproduction AirPods units and software paired with preproduction iPhone 7 units and software. The playlist consisted of 358 unique audio tracks purchased from the iTunes Store (256-Kbps AAC encoding). Volume was set to 50%. Testing consisted of full AirPods battery discharge while playing audio until the first AirPod stopped playback. Battery life depends on device settings, usage, and many other factors.
In my experience with my own AirPods, your talk time is totally normal and doesn't indicate any battery issues. 🙂

As can you see on link Buy AirPods - Apple, in overview part, you can have "5 hours of listening time on one charge".
If you can only have 2 or 2 1/2 of listening time, AirPods might have issue to complete to fully charge.
For me, a repair option can be done in an Apple Store.
Talk time makes a huge difference in your AirPod battery life, John. Again, I really doubt that there is much of an issue with his battery life, but if they do turn out to be defective, an Apple Store visit is certainly the way to go as you mentioned! 😉
Yes, of course talk time makes huge difference 😉 That's why I talk about listening time, and it's also according to Apple website, but it's strange that battery autonomy decrease from half just with this use. Only a diagnostic will determine issue with this product. 😉
Thanks to all. Yes, will have the Apple store run a diagnostic to make certain everything is operating as it should. Excellent idea vs. taking them back and returning them. When they work, they are terrific. I wanted to click "helpful" on every one of these responses but seems like I was limited to just two clicks. Everyone is, indeed, helpful.
