What is the mac equivalent of windows ctrl+shift to select multiple files?

I was looking for the mac equivalent of windows ctrl + shift function that gives you the ability to select multiple files in a window at one time. Not all the files just a continuous selection of folders or files. In windows you can use ctrl + shift and click on the first file then another further down and it will select everything in between. On a Mac I kept looking for this answer and saw message boards saying I could just use shift. Important note though... the shift and select multiple for Mac only works when you're in finder with the 'View' set to 'as List', this solution does Not work when you have the 'View' set to 'as Icons'. Wondering if there is a similar quick key solution that works regardless of view chosen, other than the hold and drag the mouse option.

  • Shift-Click will select a range of files
    • Shift-Click applies to List View, Column View, and Cover Flow View.

HOWEVER, In Icon View, Shift-Click just allows selecting files in a discontiguous order (same as Command-Click)

    • Shift-Click also applies to file open dialog boxes, if the app allows selecting multiple files.
    • Shift-Click often applies to other apps, such as word processors, text processors, etc...
  • Command-Click allows you to select discontiguous set of files.

This applies to Icon, List, Column and Cover Flow views, as well as open file dialog boxes
