Notepad

I made the switch to a Mac from PC a short time ago.

When i was using a PC, Windows had the Notepad app that enabled me to quickly type text into it and save it, or paste into it.

Does Mac have something equivalent? I find myself having to wait until Pages fires up before I can paste something quickly or type something quickly. Is there a lightweigh app like Notepad that Mac has?

Applications -> TextEdit

Applications -> Notes (which can be synced via iCloud with all your other Apple devices that are using the same Apple ID)
