Roaming, in and of itself, won't make your battery drain any faster. However, if you are somewhere you only get a weak signal, that will have a very noticeable affect on battery life.

iPhone models vary slightly in the LTE bands they support. If, where you are, there is no or little LTE in the bands your phone supports, yes, that would be a problem.
Would using roaming have any impact on the strength of the signal it is picking up in some way, since it is not connecting to its local network, and might not connect optimally to the best tower available?
