Apple watch buttons

So i'm enjoying another day after school, and when i go to check my messages on my Apple watch (series one, 42 mm aluminum case) i press the crown button to go to the menu. I try again, and it doesn't respond. Taking it off and on doesn't work, and i cant restart it as the side button doesn't work either. Now this has happened before, somehow fixed it by slapping it 10 times, but this time it didn't work. So now i panic, because this has helped me with alot and now it doesn't work. How do you fix this? Why does this happen?

Hi

Do not try to fix the issue by slapping your Apple Watch.

Operation of the Digital Crown can be affected by substances like dust or lotion.

If it is not operating as expected, then it may help to clean it by following the instructions here:

Cleaning your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue persists, then your Apple Watch may require service. I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider to arrange for your Apple Watch to be checked and, if required, serviced:

If you live near an Apple Store, make an appointment with the Genius Bar.......otherwise, call Apple Support.
