My Radeon 5770 card fried a few days ago. I was curious what 2 to 3 gig card might be good for a mid 2010 MacPro 8 core, 32 gig ram, Yosemite OS. I might upgrade to Sierra so looking for a card that can handle yosemite on up and good specs. I guess I need drivers? I am not very knowledgeable on cards as you can tell. There are so many. I am using a Samsung 30 inch S32D850T. Thank you!
Going thru your local Apple store for 2 reasons: their policy is to replace like with like, and you will pay their prices, and they may not be that familiar with Mac pro’s. It’s simple enough to change graphics cards from the fried one to the good one.this card I know works with Yosemite and older Mac pro’s( Mac Pro 2,1-maybe macpro 1,1-but slower-but it works) . You should be able to run El Capitan if you want now-if you buy this card, a word of caution: it has a 2 position switch on it-should you want to install high sierra on your Mac Pro with this card, the switch has to be in the opposite position ...not important to you, at least not yet

I read that there are problems with the Non-Mac Nvidia graphics.
When the computer goes to sleep the card flickers and sometimes will not start back up after sleep mode.
The Non-mac AMD card are suppose to be more reliable however you get no boot screen.

These work out of the box vanilla however you get no boot screen.
You can use two graphics cards in your Mac Pro.
Use a Mac compatible graphics card with your primary boot display and use the NEW graphics card with your high end display. Dual displays. Or you can use a Display with dual connections and simply switch between display ports for access to the boot screen.
Sure I can help you. One that comes to my mind is the sapphire Radeon 7950. I bought this because my old 8800gt had bit the dust, and so far it has served me well. I would not recommend

Hi John, apple doesnt make this graphics card. Anything older than 5 years. So you are happy with the Sapphire? I am looking at the nvidia geoforce gtx 1050? Meant for pc but drivers for mac are on tonymac website. Microcenter said it will work on my mid 2010. It has 2 gigs of ram. But... the sapphire is $450 compare to $180 for the geoforce.
Yup-you’re right. The gtx 1050 should be okay too. However I dunno if it has Yosemite drivers..maybe it does.. you can also try the R9 series of cards...if u do just get the generic ones..should work in sierra .. if unsure maybe check out xlr8yourmac.com. Tonymacx might be okay too. Apple hasn’t put out a graphics card on its own for at least 7 years, at least none that you or I could buy, so we’re kinda on our own, but with help from here and there we can make it work.
