Have you gone into the setting and disabled background app refresh? Also go into settings -> Cellular-> and uncheck any apps you don't use that would require data. I had that issue a year ago and didn't understand why all of a sudden I was consuming so much extra data. That worked for me.

Go to settings down to apps check each app that using data change to wifi only
On each app that doesn't need to use data just to wifi.
