Color Mask Questions

I'm getting moving shape masks for color correction to work and have a few questions.

1.) If, as I move through a clip, I need to change the color correction at the point of a new shape location, can I go back to the color board, and re-adjust the correction. When it plays through this spot, will the change of correction "feather" from the previous adjustment to the new one with the same smoothness that the mask is tracking the change in location. i.e., Can the color correction have more than one setting during the tracking of a moving mask.

2.) Is it possible to have two separated animated masks happen within the same clip, for different portions during the clip's duration? And possibly have a stretch in between them with no mask?

3.) Is it possible to have one mask in a clip, lasting for only a portion of the clip. I know that the initial keyframe is set with the button, wherever you want it to start. How would I set a corresponding end keyframe at the point in the clip where I want the mask to stop working.

TIA. (Yes, I did skim through the manual but didn't find any mention of how the masks would behave when put to this use.)

Color effects are keyframable in FCP X 10.4, but not in earlier versions. So the answer to 1) is yes, if you are running the latest version, 10.4.

2) Sort of. You can add keyframes and stretch a mask to make as big or as small as needed, or even go totally offscreen. But it may be easier to simply blade the clip into three parts and mask them separately.

3) Again, it is easier just to blade the clip into two. You can even add a short cross dissolve at the cut to smooth it out.

FCP X 10.4 does not work in 10.11. It requires at least 10.12.4.

For most people it works great in 10.13, but one should never do such a big update without a secure backup of both your current OS and your libraries.

I suggest you do a clean install of High Sierra on a separate drive and test before committing to the update. And if you do update your regular system drive make a full clone beforehand. Libraries, once updated to the new version, will not work with the old one, so again you need a full backup of those to be safe.

Slightly off-topic, but still relevant. I'd be worried about legacy programs getting broken. Luis, do you have any of

the following up and running in 10.13 (which still work for me in 10.11): MPEG Streamclip, Quicktime v7 (Legacy), Visual Hub?

TIA

Quicktime Player 7 and MPEG Streamclip are working in High Sierra.

I loved Visual Hub, and used a lot in years past, but I don't have it anymore on my system, so I can't say if it works.

Going forward, I recommend you keep a drive or partition with the old OS on it, so you can boot to it and run old software if needed.
