Mac Preview does not allow HEIC edition

Hello,

I am facing HEIC new Apple format, recently adopted by Apple on iPhone ... IOS 11

HEIC is not supported by Windows, but OK it can be seen with Mac Preview program ...

Except that I cannot annotate my pictures anymore. I use to use Windows Paint to add comments on JPEG (very easy and simple, some circle, some arrow, some texte) ... I expected Preview to allows me to annotate my HEIC pictures ... No way.

HEIC is supported by macOS High Sierra, yes ... but Apple Team forget to adapt Preview to allow annotation on HEIC format ...

Support, could you help quickly on this feature?

I really do not want to convert all my daily site works pictures (few hundreds a day) from HEIC to JPEG ....

Thanks and regards,

Are you using the Photos.app on your Mac or importing the HEIC photos to a folder in the Finder?

The most recent version of Graphic Converter can edit HEIC files and save again as HEIC. Graphic Converter, Luminar and Aurora HDR use third-party converters to be able to save the edited image again as HEIC file. We will have to wait for the next system update for macOS X to support HEIC fully.

The problem is, that macOS 10.13 High Sierra still not supports natively exporting edited photos a HEIC. When you call Preview from Photos with "Image > Edit with Preview", Photos will send a TIFF to Preview instead of the HEIC file.

If you are using the Photos for Mac application, the markup extension will allow you to edit the Photo slide with Preview. But the resulting version will be a TIFF.
