Problem Printing with HP Deskjet 6127

Cannot get New iMac Duo to recognize networked hp deskjet 6127. Printer is working networked to 2 other Macs running 10.3.9 but this new system will not recognize it.

Contacted both HP and AppleCare, downloaded and reinstalled the binary driver multiple times but still no success.

An earlier post here used this solution with an earlier version of OS-X:

"When adding the printer, I selected 'More Printers' then changed the top drop down selector from 'Windows Printing' to 'HP IP Printing' and it saw my printer and added it right away."

When I use that pull down window, I do not get the option for 'HP IP Printing' (Cannon, Epson, & Lexmark but no HP.)

This is not a 'Bonjour' capable printer. I do have an HP 2570 which is and it is working correctly.

I've spent hours & dollars on this and would appreciate any help or ideas that can help get this unit installed.

Have you downloaded and installed the Universal Binary driver for this printer? You will find it at the HP support site. The HP IP Printing option will not appear unless the UB version of the driver software has been installed. You may need to restart the computer.

I would recommend that you use the PSU option to Reset Printing System to be sure you've gotten rid of any other driver software installed. Then re-Add the printer. You may find problems trying to install more than one HP printer at the same time. Some HP drivers are uncooperative and refuse to work if another HP driver is already installed even if it's for a different printer model.

Yes I had downloaded and installed the OSXHPInkjetinstallerB binary file and installed it as directed by HP. One of their several e-mails had me go in and physically delete all of the HP printer files...Wrong thing to do in retrospect. After attempting this 4 times using slightly different approaches suggested by HP & AppleCare, it still would not see my 6127.

After seeing the way the earlier post solved the problem and realizing that wasn't going to work in my current configuration, I reinstalled OS-X vr.10.4.7 and then installed the HP binary download and this time the 'More Printers', Pull Down displayed the HP IP Printing. Although it did not find the 6127 automatically, I was able to insert the IP address and sure enough, the printer now works.

Finished up by updating to OS-X 10.4.8 and everything is (almost) back to normal.

Next - On to see if I can print using XP in Parallels.

Thanks for your response Kippy.

Note- both of the HP printers are up and running on all systems including 2 XP Pro systems that I'm about to replace, I hope, using Parallels.
