I'm doing a research project for School and I have the topic Apple ID. I've been researching on what it's used for but I can't find when Apple ID was introduced to Customers. For example iTunes was introduced over 17 years ago, is there a date for Apple ID?

Going back to 2000, iTools was introduced, which morphed into Dot Mac to Mobile Me, to what is now iCloud.
A user name and password was necessary to get a .mac email account.

I don't know when they first started using that term but the iTunes Store dates from 2003 and necessitated a log in feature, so I'm guessing around then.
