Ugh it's such a stupid question to get the sum function NOT to default to vertical but how do I get a HORIZONTAL sum?
I can't get the sum function to sum horizontally - it won't undo the default to vertical sum function.

No, you do not hit the box. After highlighting your line, you go down where the sum appears, you click once with your mouse, you pick it up and carry it directly into the cell.
It is possible that you prefer to see and hear. So go see this:
So, highlight the range, click Sum (Somme) and then hit the box where you want the result? That loses the sum in that order.
Also tried starting in the box where I want the result then trying to pick up the range but that gets lost too.
If I start in the results box and then hit sum it defaults to vertical and I have been trying to switch the range to the horizontal and I get the exclamation point error message.
Why is this so difficile?
Hallelujia. I knew it was easy. Another part of the problem was the range is like column C to column AU so the range had to start at C and then the sum was in AH NOT AU to C because then you can't get at AH to drag the sum function in. Took several tries but it looks right now Merci, merci, beaucoup.
