How can I get my Mac to detect my Microsoft keyboard? (Instructions in "System Preferences" do NOT work)

Just got an iMac desktop - my first. Love it!! But, can't get used to the tiny keyboard that came with. Want to use my "Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard Surface Edition"with it. Keyboard, mouse and number pad came as a bundle with a single USB to plug into computer. Mouse and number pad work just fine. But, iMac cannot detect the keyboard. I've tried the instructions under the "System Preferences", but it cannot identify my keyboard. Any ideas?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), quad-core 6th-gen Skylake 3.3GHz

Thank you very much, You've saved me a lot of time. I called both Apple and Microsoft. Apple said to call Microsoft. Microsoft said to call Apple. Neither one of them told me anything about the keyboard last working on OS X 10.10. Neither one of them mentioned checking into getting the latest driver (which I tried to do, but it was not available for Mac OS even though the product specs said the keyboard was compatible with Mac OS). Your information now completes my story.

If you don't already, you should be working for Apple or Microsoft - they both could use more knowledgeable people like you! Kudos for you CountryGirl 56!!!
