How do I remove "Holi" (March 2) from my iphone calendar?

It's not a national holiday. Maybe a religious one? I want it off my calendar. I'd like to stick to actual US Holidays.

Thanks.

iPhone 7, iOS 11.2.6

Okay all you (think) brilliant people out there telling us what is a religious or US Holiday, the total point (that you are all missing, except a few) is that we ought to have the choice to delete any holiday if we want. Apple needs to make the calendar so we can delete what we don't want on it. Better yet, just put out a generic calendar and then we can add what we want (like a "New Event") and choose to repeat it every year. Every one is happy. Please do that Apple and lets stop all this ridiculous PC crap!

Are you incapable of typing? If no subscription calendar suits you, don’t use any. Enter whatever holidays you wish in your calendar. Issue solved.

Nothing compells anyone to use anyone else’s optional subscription content in their own calendar. If you don’t like the subscription content, don’t subscribe.

And just what do you classify as a “US Holiday” since the United States of America has not one single Congress enacted National Holiday.

Then you need to tell me how to find the Christian Calendar because I can’t

If you’re a Christian, surely you already know your own religions holidays and can just enter then into your calendar yourself?

Same thing goes for any religion or religious denomination. If somebody else’s subscription calendar is not to your liking, don’t use it. Just make your own calendar entries - it’s not exactly difficult or challenging to make a recurring entry in an electronic calendar. Instead of spending time complaining, arguing, and searching for alternative pre-made subscription content, you could just set have set up your own calendar as you wish by now and been done with it.

It is in the Google subscription ”US Holidays” calendar, and in the Apple “US Holidays” calendar (and Microsoft’s, Week Cal’s, etc). Most of these subscription calendars simply include any and all “commonly” celebrated holidays in the US - that is all the major holidays recognized by some substantial proportion of Americans. Thus they include the Federal Government’s Employee Holiday Scedule, most or all various specific State Holidays, widely observed days of remembrance, holidays for numerous major Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and other religions practiced in the USA, African heritage days, and so on. Almost none of which are observed by all Americans.

There is no such thing as a National Holiday in the USA - we have not a single such designated day. “US Holidays” are nothing more than anyone’s choice of days commonly observed around the nation as a holiday. Those getting bent out of shape over holidays other than just the few they think appropriate need to either ignore the others, stop using someone else’s subscriber content, or simply make their own holiday calendar.

But nobody gets to dictate what is or is not a “US holiday”. Not even Congress has the power to do that for the Nation as a whole.

You could UNCHECK US Calendar. That is how you get rid of it.

If you want a US Calendar that ONLY supports your prejudices there are thousands of them that are free on the Internet. As I don't know what your prejudices are, I can guess that this one will satisfy your biases: http://icalshare.com/calendars/2. Just open the link on your iPhone and click the Subscribe button. It will add the calendar to your Calendar app.

Besides the oft repeated steps given by Lawrence and others to either create your own calendar with your own entries, or to use other available calendars that suit your bias, here's another one that doesn't require any extra work on your part. When you see a holiday that isn't part of your bias…

IGNORE IT!!!

Is that really so hard for you to do?

Hello Wendymoira, Holi is a Indian Festival for celebrating colors. It is a very huge festival in their country. The reason why it is reflecting in your calendar is because may be your calendar synced with Google Calendar. Looking at the Google's influence in India they must have added it in their calendar.

No, Holi is a Hindu (not Indian - there are many religions in India) festival celebrating Spring, fertility and a good harvest. Similar to the way Easter celebrates fertility (why do you think there are lambs, rabbits and eggs involved?) The colors represent several things that I will not explain in this family-oriented forum. It is celebrated around the world, including the US. There are Holi celebrations in major cities around the US including, but not limited to, New York City and Philadelphia. There is a Holi celebration a mile from me in a park in New Jersey. As there are 3 million Hindus who are CITIZENS OF THE US, including 3 who serve as representatives in Congress, it is clearly a US Holiday as much as Easter is.

I was bothered by the same thing. I don’t want extra things on my calendar. At the bottom of the calendar screen you can click on “calendars”. There are 2 for US holidays. I unchecked the one in the second section and iit took off the Hindu holidays. It left the other holidays, but took off the more religious ones like Good Friday. The major holidays are still there along with Mother’s Day, Presidents’ Day, etc.

I want the calendar to reflect official US holidays. I am not fussed about it being a religious holiday.

I would like to know Apple's position on this.

There are no official U.S. holidays (that's been explained repeatedly in this thread alone) so, if you just turn off the U.S. Holiday calendar, you'll be fine.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Apple is not going to respond here. But, one can infer their position from the what holidays they put on their calendar.

Why not add it if a large number of Americans observe it? The nation and its population evolves and changes, so why can’t commonly observed holidays? Not one single so-called “US Holiday” is, nor has ever been, universally observed by all Americans.

And again, if someone doesn’t observe it, why can’t they simply ignore it? Why must it be eliminated just because it does not fit your’s or anyone’s particular opinion of what constitutes a “US Holiday”?

Mar 2, 2018 6:15 AM in response to Igothepower

Nobody complained about Easter being on the calendar(although it was never recognized as a legal holiday for federal employees), but as soon as a holiday that some Americans don’t think they celebrate as American is added, a few in that group start complaining. To me that sounds like the same prejudice talking that America has been battling for years. I think we should all calm down and think to ourselves: “you know what, 3 million people that are US citizens celebrate these holidays (if not more). They deserve the right to be dignified just as much as us native American killing settlers do by getting to have their holidays on our (our as in ours as a nation) calendar too.”

For pity's sake! It's a calendar. It's not a loyalty test. It's not a measure of any religion's or ethnicity's worth. And, it's Apple's calendar. If they want to add "National Way Too Many Americans are Way Too Parochoical Day", they can.

Mar 2, 2018 6:34 AM in response to Caswartz

Not that simple of a question when it shows both a lack of knowledge about what is a holiday (there actually are none), and intolerance of any marked day that doesn't fit their world.

Where did all of these "holidays" come from? The same place vacation days, medical/dental coverage and other job perks did. They became common extras days off over a period of time to draw potential quality employees to a business. A carrot to dangle out so you'd get a sought after person over your competitor.

None, not one of these "holidays" are automatic days off at any job you will ever have. They're offered as a perk, only, and can be taken away if the employer wishes.

How do I remove "Holi" (March 2) from my iphone calendar?
