unable to format SSD

Hi,

Due to the crypto_val warnings on my imac pro 8 cores (16 snapshots over 23) , I wanted to format the SSD and reinstall High Sierra.

In addition, Bootcamp was failing and after manually creating a second partition with diskutil, running first aid on the SSD disk gives me the message (First Aid found corruption that needs to be repaired). There is no way to repair no matter if I start from recovery mode or internet recovery....always the same error.

No way to boot from USB stick (it looks for a software update), so I went for an Internet recovery but when I tried to erase the SSD (APPLE SSD AP1024M Media) the process failed for the following reason "Unmounting Disk; Couldn't open device; Operation failed".

I was wondering if formatting the container disk or the macintosh HD Volume could be enough to correct the issues and reinstall OS X. Still I'm not comfortable with an error at SSD level, but I've run out of ideas.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Mac Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), base configuration

its not an unusual issue. Its growing pains about learning to use High Sierra's or even Sierra;s disk Utility properly. Also can use it properly but run into situations which seem like bugs. Anyway in your case try to eliminate the volumes first then get back down to one container and one partition. The way I get around the problem on a Mac which can run Yosemite is to boot into Yosemite then use its Disk Utility to erase the volume then do a partition, one partition then boot back into High Sierra and use the erase function only on the volume. But once done and before installing macOS make sure you do a First Aid then do the install. Without doing the first aid I've learned many goofy type problems occur.

I now only use one partition and one container because I know I can add many volumes using that + button and I know I can install an operating system on any or all of the volumes and they are all bootable.
