Will apple replace my cracked and bent iPhone 6?

The screen on my iPhone 6 is busted beyond belief and the phone itself is bent. I am still in my One-Year apple warranty. Will apple be able to replace my phone for free or at least a discounted price?

iPhone 6, iOS 11.2.5

No, Apple will not provide a free replacement. Accidental damage is not covered under Apple iPhone warranty and screens don't crack by themselves, nor do phones bend on their own either.

Sorry, but I must disagree with you. And in this case, it's apparent why the screen cracked. Because the OP bent his phone.

i'm just saying there are cases of defective glass that have been replaced by Apple. Apple says "If your screen cracks due to a manufacturing defect, it’s covered by the Apple warranty."

It would have to be maybe a single hairline crack without any missing pieces (indicating impact damage) of glass. But if the case is bent then no chance Apple replaces it for free under warranty. There are several photos out there of examples, but I don't think that particular source is allowed here. But here's a competitor's product with a clear glass defect that resulted in a single, clean crack. If this was on an iPhone I'd say Apple would replace the glass under warranty.

While out of warranty pricing estimates exists (see link here), it is possible a bent iPhone (depending on the severity) could be considered "beyond economical repair." In that case, it may not be eligible for repair or replacement, even at the out of warranty pricing.

I thought it wasn't really about whether or not it could be repaired, because there are cases where clearly unrepairable iPhones were replaced at the out of warranty price. Stuff like liquid contact, extreme drops, etc. And from what I've heard (hint, hint) bent cases clearly qualify unless it looks like someone placed it in a vise and bent it at a 45º angle.

Basically it's a judgement call, and a lot of people have heard about the leaked guides given to Apple Stores and AASPs. That one doc clearly shows a phone that's been bent slightly where it says it can be replaced with the out of warranty fee. Then one that looks like it's been hit with a sledgehammer is classified as catastrophic damage.

I recall reading a warranty a while ago about Apple reserving to do anything with a device that has been subject to major physical damage but I can't find reference to it in Apple's documents now. In other words if you did something like run over your phone with a car and could only give them a bag of bits and piece of plastic and glass they would just give it back to you and tell you to buy a brand new phone.

I recommend setting up an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or sending your phone in to an Apple repair facility for inspection to determine if you're eligible for out of warranty pricing. Visit getsupport.apple.com to view your options for setting up service.

I think everyone is just trying to help set realistic expectations.

Just reach out to Apple Support and/or set up a Genius Bar appointment. Since none of us can actually see the extremity of the damage to your phone, all anyone can do is speculate. The worst you’ll be told is the the phone isn’t eligible for out of warranty repair pricing.

They occasionally do, and Apple might replace defective glass under warranty. Or more specifically if there's a glass defect that will eventually crack from ordinary stress. Doubt it's the case with the OP though. If it's bent then it probably doesn't even matter. Apple won't do anything other than the out of warranty replacement price unless there's AppleCare+, and would an iPhone 6 even qualify?

Yeah, good point. 😊 It’s likely it would qualify under the out of warranty pricing, but it’s always important to have a device inspected prior to any guarantee of service.
