mac book pro does not mirror on a projector

Since updating to high sierra my preference for display had been altered . according to the help menu since i connect to on projector airplay display has been turned of . It suggested to use thunderbolt connection. Does it mean my existing connection is redundant and I need to buy a new connection ??

I have a presentation coming up and need to use my VGA projector as I use to use in the last 4 years
