Unable to Sync Iphone 7 to Itunes on my Windows 7 Professional 64Bit Laptop

I got a new Iphone 8 and trying to sync my Iphone 7 to Itunes on my Windows 7 64-Bit Professional Laptop. Each time i do the sync, it is throwing error at the end saying that "Unable to sync your iphone 7 to Itunes because of a error".

I tried all options, uninstalling Itunes, and re-installing and clearing everything on my laptop. But its of no use.

Tried contacting Apple, but havent heard from them yet. Now i dont have a choice to return my Iphone 8 and stay on Iphone 7 for a while. Anyone with similar experience, pls help me. Almost spent more than 48hrs on this issue. Thank you.

Hi nvsrikanth,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you are having issues syncing your previous iPhone to iTunes on your Windows machine. If reinstalling iTunes did not appear to resolve the issue, you may want to double-check that all components were completely removed and reinstalled, as outlined in the following article:
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support
You may also want to verify that there isn't a conflict with any third-party security software, as noted here:
Resolve issues between iTunes and third-party security software - Apple Support
Regards.

What anti-virus software are you running? From time to time various AV packages may start treating some Apple process as suspicious, and even if it isn't blocked altogether iTunes doesn't run appear to double check that calls have been honoured. You could try temporarily disabling your AV to see if you can sync successfully.

As for making sure the correct driver is being used see iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows.

This is a user to user support forum. I am a fellow user. I cannot get anyone to do anything. Sorry I'm not up to analyzing the log. First level of support clearly isn't either so the trick would be to try again, explaining patiently that you've done all the standard troubleshooting steps and you would now like to try to get the issue escalated to an engineer who can make sense of the logs for you.

I know you say you've been through the uninstall and reinstall steps already but take a quick look at the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates just in case there is something there that you might not have done when following Apple's standard list. I cannot promise it will help, but it is a little more thorough, and it might be worth a shot.

Thanks Moon for the reply. I did all the steps mentioned in the link provided. Even then i am getting the same error.

But the number of entries in the error log got reduced. I almost spent 2hrs to sync my iphone to itunes today and again it failed. Here are the new log details. I called Apple helpsupport but they couldnt stay with me on the phone for 2 hrs.

I would add that I have a similar issue. i bought a brand new Win64 labtop. After installing iTunes with Apple Mobile Device USB drivers, iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus would sync just fine for two weeks. Then, I could no longer find my iPad or iPhone. I use Device Manager, delete the Apple driver, and plug in the device. The Microsoft driver takes over, and I can find my iPad and iPhone. Then, as soon as I reinstall iTunes, and the Apple driver comes back, my iPad and iPhone would go missing again. Very annoying.

My log starts similarly to yours, with the error "defaults key ShouldLog in domain com.apple.iTunes is (null)"

This is significant becuase everything else that follows obviously depends on this thing that got "(null)"ed out. After reading several cases of similiar complaints, I find it very annoying that Apple Tech Support can only come up with deinstall and reinstall iTunes.

I am an application coder, and not a system coder; and even I can tell that some registry entry and/or configuration parameter got messed up at some point. This is causing the Apple Mobile Device Support and/or iTunes to not be able to create the correct resource for connection.

@turingtest2: Thanks. I am running Tencent's QQ PC Manager as my anti-virus software. Let me try disabling it and see if that works.

@AppleSupport: I got your emails. It's unclear to me what qualifies as unproductive rants. I suspect the average user won't be able to figure out, let alone have the patience, to dig out the logs and help you with troubleshooting. The fact is that I see people post logs and your standard answer is de-install and re-install iTunes (which is a pain in the you know what to begin with ... mind your steps: Remove 1) iTunes; 2) Apple Software Update; 3) Apple Mobile Device Suport; 4) Bonjour; 5) 32-bit App support; 6) 64-bit App support. Either iTuness, your support techniques and attitudes, and / or all of the above, really need to be imporved.

If I see another "Edited by Host", or a delete of my replies, I will be asking for your Support Manager contact info. I remember very well what I write. Since I see your email replies, I know you obviously know where to find me and/or even black ball me. Well, let's put it this way. If I don't find a systematic way to address this issue, be it disable my AV software or what not, I won't be buying new Apple stuff 🙂 ...

Mar 5, 2018 3:51 AM in response to turingtest2

Well, I turned off anti virus (both Tencent's QQ PC Manager and Microsoft's Windows Defender), reset the driver to Apple Mobile Device USB driver. I once again watched the device go from showing up, to disappearing, right in front of me. Of course, nothing to be found in iTunes.

Here is the log:

[9812 @ Mon Mar 05 03:41:13 2018] [YSLog iTunes.exe] defaults key ShouldLog in domain com.apple.iTunes is (null)

[9812 @ Mon Mar 05 03:41:13 2018] [YSLog iTunes.exe] defaults key ShouldLog in domain iTunes.exe is (null)

BTW - I had both of my anti virus software happily running for two weeks, and connected simultaneously to both iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus (at the same time, that is the very meaning of simultaneous). Then two days ago, I notice the sync action going slower and slowers. Then finally, both devices disappear and no more syncing.

No offense (or if you guys feel upset, well, imagine the frustration of the loyal users, been one since iPad 1 and iPhon 4). I feel that Apple Support is just shooting in the dark when the logging clearly shows that some registry entry or configuration parameter is wiped out. Why can't one of your iTunes developers take a look at the log and trace back the code. Are they so sacred and are building such new features that they cannot be bothered with something as annoying as this? If iTunes doesn't fix this, it's really worthless to users who rely on it to do syncing. As a video player, or a video service, it's not worth a whole lot; there are a lot better video players out there.

Please tell your developers in Cupertino get their act together and get to the bottom of the syncing instability (or usability) issue. Syncing to an iPad and/or an iPhone is really the killer feature for iTunes. Nothing else matters.

Edit away my comments as you wish. You can hide the truth but cannot really run away from it.

Mar 5, 2018 3:57 AM in response to turingtest2

In the meantime: I am going back to using Microsoft's default USB driver to access my iPad and iPhone. At least this way, I can get the pictures off my iPad and iPhone.

Again: Once you lose the stable syncing capability of iTunes to iPad / iPhone, that's a big reason to switch to an Android phone. The only thing left keeping me from switching is FaceTime and iMessage (I live with family full of iPhone users 😟 ... But they also all use Line or WeChat).

Please have your developers figure out what the darn parameters are getting (null)ed so I can manually "fix" my iTunes syncing problem in a systematic and repeatable fashion.

Mar 5, 2018 8:30 AM in response to turingtest2

Thanks for the suggestion. I used administrator rights a while back. In fact, I set the property for the Apple Mobile Support exe to run using Administrator rights. It doesn't work.

Please have someone read the log and trace back to the code and figure out where "defaults key ShouldLog in domain com.apple.iTunes" (i.e., there should be a config parameter called "ShouldLog" for what appears to be a class called com.apple.iTunes) is defined. It's should be in a config file or the registry somewhere. Please have the developer publish where this is at so that all can benefit.

Other suggestions:

* Set a debugger breakpoint in USBMuxListenerCreate

* Set a debugger breakpoint near the call to Windows OS function GetOverlappedResult

If the developer still can't find the answer, maybe he / she should not be in the software development business. Sigh.

Mar 5, 2018 12:32 PM in response to turingtest2

@tt2: Thank you for your suggestions and valiant effort.

Having said that: I find it difficult to believe that this is an entirely user-to-user forum. From when I first saw this forum when I got my iPhone 4 (that would be 2010?), I didn't believe that it's entirely user-to-user. I see some users put in superhuman effort into answering everybody else's questions. To these folks, it's practically a full time job.

I could understand from a cost perspective why Apple Support wants to hide behind an user-to-user forum to minimize support cost. This sync feature used to always work until iTunes 11 came out. Somewhere between bloated phone and bloated desktop app, the sync handshake code got messed up. With the logs that I see get posted, it seem to me that if Apple really wants to fix iTunes mobile sync feature, it would have been done a while back. With the talented (albeit arrogant) developers that Apple has in Cupertino, I find it hard to believe that this isn't just a two hour fix for some young hot shot coder.

Asking foks to go through long checklists and/or de-install / re-install iTunes makes iTunes and the iPad / iPhone unusable, at least for the intended purposes of downloading videos to your iPad / iPhone. And maybe Apple does this to discourage folks from doing this, and encourage them to buy content from Apple Store. This attempt of using lack of usability to hijack users' behavior is just sad and lazy.

Host can edit whatever the heck you want. I am done with Apple Mobile sync feature. I'll just keep my old iPhone 6 Plus around so I can use FaceTime and iMessage 🙂 ... I'll start retiring my iPad in favor of the new two-in-one laptops that are coming out. Like I said: There are much video players out there; i just like the convenience and smaller form factor of an iPad. Then again, since Apple stopped caring for its users, what choice does the user have but to move on.

Adios.
