Cellular Data is Turned Off

I do not have the cellular option on my iPad Air2, WiFi only (128GB).


Periodically (for several months) I get a popup message stating:

Cellular Data is Turned Off

Turn on cellular data or use Wi-Fi

to access data.

FEBRUARY 2018 - iOS 11.2.6 (15D100)


Any explanation for this alert?

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.3, 128 GB

Yes.


Your model is the 128GB iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi only.

Since your iPad does not have cellular data, this means that your Wi-Fi must not be connected or working properly.
