Should the iPhone 8 be able to handle playing 4K video?

My iPhone 8 on iOS 11.2.2 cannot play 4K 30fps H.264 video that I save to the camera reel from microSD card via dongle. I just get the pinwheel loading icon indefinitely:

Footage imported was taken on a DJI Phantom 4 Pro+. Suggestions on getting past this issue? Or is it too intensive for the phone to process? Was hoping to be able make short edits to upload via phone when working remotely. Thanks!
