Hi, I’m trying to erase the disk on my old MacBook as I’m getting rid of it. I have tried the Command-R keys on start up but it takes me to my normal log on screen and not to macOS Utilities. Its a MacBook 2.1 about 11 years old running Mac OS X 10.6.8

There isn't a recovery partition on 10.6.8 or earlier. Insert a Mac OS X install DVD and restart with the C or Option key held down.
