I am trying to purchase music. It takes me to the payment method screen and tells me there is a problem and the program must shut down.

Does it allow you to input your payment info at all?
Also, I'd check to make sure you have your payment method added either in appleid.apple.com and that it is updated and you've confirmed such.
If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can also check or add your payment method via settings - name- iTunes and App store- tap on Apple ID in blue print- Select View Apple ID- Payment Info- Edit, confirm, or add your payment method here
My credit card shows up except for the CVV code. It crashes before any info can be changed.
No prior problem with my last purchase.
