configure mail

I upgraded to a new iMac running OS 10.13.3. I have a mail account @verizon.net which is done through AOL. In Safari I can go to mail.aol.com to send and receive mail at the @verizon.net address. But in the Mail program I seem to be able to receive mail but not send it. How should I configure Mail to be able to both send and receive?
