Lost Excel Files

I am operating my I Mac Under High Sierra 10.13.3 /Supplemental Update

I have lost abou t 10 Excel Files. When I try to access a-AB I get this message:

'OS X BASE SYSTEM: USERS;TEDSPIEGEL: DESKTOP2014 TAXES;AB-STAR CR-VETERANS BY YEAR .XLS COULD NOT BE FOUND

Similar messages for other "lost". files.

I have changed nothing on this files --especially the names.

Can someone please tell me what is going on an d how I can retrieve this files .

.xls files now exec on osx 10.14 I went to look at some information on a spreadsheet that was created on Microsoft Excel for Mac 97-2004 workbook I currently use Excel for Mac 2008. These files are now black squares with exec. On Get info and in the finder they have no extension attached. What concerns me the most is that I have a lot of data on files like this that if I lose could be problematic eg financial stuff , new climbs records etc etc. Any idea how to access them or stop it happening again. I have yet to go back to check back ups to see if they have been munted too.

Excel for Mac ‘crash?’ file “cannot be found” I am running Mojave and Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. Everything works perfectly but today I opened up a spreadsheet which I use daily and I got a window which at the top said: “Cannot find <file name removed>(version1).xlsb copy from:” Gives the option to Cancel and then the real file (<>.xlsm) which opens seemingly without a problem. This happens every time I now open this file. I have restored from TimeMachine, Shutdown/Started and booted in Safe Mode but still get the same window saying “Cannot find <file name removed>(version 1).xlsb copy from:” I copied the file to another User and it opens up perfectly OK. I have searched for this missing file and cannot find it anywhere (including hidden files). I suspect it is a file that is created when the system crashes and needs to be deleted. I do not believe the system has crashed etc. Where is this missing file or is there another solution?

my Excel 2011 for Mac files don't appear in AutoRecovery Hi,I'm running Mac OX Sierra 10.12.6. I tried to retrieved in the Office 2011 AutoRecovery folder the latest version of a file I was working on when my computer crashed, but when I went to the folder, I found only one Excel file from 2016! This despite the fact that I had on the automatic recovery in excel. With the case of Word is ever worse: I also have the automatic recovery in Word, but the AutoRecovery folder the last word file is from 2011!I don't remember ever changing the folder where the auto recovered files should go, but if I did, is there any way to find it? Otherwise, any fix to this problem?
