Transfer Watch messages to new iPhone?

My wife's iPhone was water damaged and I am having a glitch with iCloud preventing me from accessing the backups. She has an original Apple Watch Sport paired to the damaged iPhone 6S. I've put the SIM card back into an old iPhone 6. One problem I'm having:

- All her recent text messages are only on the Watch.

- The 6S is totally dead.

- I don't have access to the recent backups.

- I'm afraid that if I pair the Watch to the "new" old iPhone 6, it will wipe out all the recent text messages.

How can I get the messages off the Watch?
