I want to move my Movies folder to another hard drive, which includes Projects, Theater, Events and Library.
Is it as simple as moving the entire Movies folder in the Finder and then "reconnecting" the iMovie app to the iMovie Library? Or is this something I need to do from within the iMovie app?

What version of iMovie are you using? The Apple Support article Moonj referred you to applies to iMovie 10.x.x. If you have iMovie 11(version9) then drag your iMovie Projects folder and iMovie Events folder to the root level of your external Drive which needs to be formatted for MacOS extended journaled.You can also drag your Theater folder.
