Question:

Question: External Apple cinema screen does not connect

Hi and HELP!
I have MacBookPro (with up-to-date software) and an external cinema screen. Without any changes to my set-up, the screen is no longer connecting, and I'm at my wit's end. The screen shows the white power light as on, and when I insert the connecting cable, the laptop screen briefly goes black as it does every time I connect the external screen. But the external screen then doesn't come up. It also doesn't show in Settings under Screens.

So, right now I have a connected cinema screen with its power light on, which is not recognised by my laptop.

Any ideas? Cables all seem fine, and I've restarted the laptop and switched off the power for a few seconds to reset the screen. Not success.

Many thanks!

MacBook Pro, iOS 11.2.1, null

Hello missetoile,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I am happy to help you check out your Apple Cinema Display. Here are two articles to assist you:

First, this article talks about external displays, and the troubleshooting to help connect your computer to them: Get help with video issues on external displays connected to your Mac

Please go through the entire article as there are many things to check at the top titled "Before you begin", but then there is a section titled "If the display image is blank or unusable".

Next, here is an article specific to the Apple Cinema Display. After going through the entire article, there is a section at the end under "Learn more" to help you download an update: Get help with your Apple Cinema Display

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

HI chris,

thank you for your reply, but none of these things worked (and I went through both articles). I also tried to download a software update, but I couldn't install it as it's for iOS 10.6 and I'm on 10.11.6 now.

Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hello missetoile,

Thanks for going through those articles. I recommending having the display checked at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.

This link will help you find a provider in your area: Apple - Find Locations

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
