Question: Random black screen on iMac i5.

Hi, on my iMac i5 everything has been working fine until a couple of days ago;

Now, when I boot it in the morning it runs for about an hour before the screen goes black. If i try to awake it nothing happens unless I wait for 20mins+. Then the same happens - works briefly then black screen.

The computer is still working as I can access the files from my other Mac whom I am sharing files with.

I have done a PRAM & SMC reset but it hasn't really made much difference.

Can anyone help?

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9), Xcode based projects not working.

shutdown and disconnect all external devices except OEM mouse and keyboard

repeat the SMC and NVRAM reset and do them both about 3 times in succession.

go to >System Preferences>Energy Save and click Restore Defaults

For futher analysis you may post an Etrecheck report. The link is http://www.etrecheck.com

If the resets do not work, please restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart normally and re-test.

If that does not work please let us know and we will then ask you for an EtreCheck report of your system.
