I sold an Ipad 2 that was my wifes on ebay. Before selling I restored it to erase everything on it and got to the Hello screen. As I stated I sold it and the person I sold it to states it is locked and needs me to remove it from my device list. I found it under my wifes itunes and removed it. He emailed this morning and it still is locked and says its attached to an gmail account I no longer use and has been closed. Is there anyway to unlock this ipad?

I think that is the issue I did not remove activation lock. Its not showing up under either my account or my wifes. It shows an old gmail account which I no longer use. I have attempted to try to recover the account thru gmail and states my credentials are no longer valid. Not sure what to do. Just went thru all the paperwork we have to see if maybe I still have the sales slip to prove my wife purchased it and cannot find it.
Did you remove activation lock from it, does it still show in the Find iPhone section of the account on http://www.icloud.com ?
Where are you looking on the accounts, on http://www.icloud.com ? Apple will only potentially be able to remove activation lock if you bought the iPad new and have its receipt
