Can't sign into iMessage or FaceTIme on Macbook Air

26th February 2018

I've been unable to sign into iMessage or FaceTime for weeks, keep getting the 'failed to authenticate' message, I did get as far as confirming my account via text message code, only to get the failed message again.

I’ve attempted the steps on the help page but to no avail and it’s the same on my work mac so it’s not a wifi issue.

Any advice apart from calling support? I have no option to request a call back because of my location so thought I’d post here.

Would appreciate the help, thank you.

Before calling, have someone else attempt to sign in using their Apple ID. If they can successfully sign in and use Messages/FaceTime, it may be your Apple ID as you already suspect.Someone I know had this happen and I was able to sign in usingmy Apple ID. After a call to Apple Support and then being elevated to a tier 2 support person, it turned out it was a problem with their Apple ID. It took the software engineers 3-4 days to fix the problem. When calling Apple, make sure you tell them it is an Apple ID problem so you don't get charged.
