Does the new MBP have worse wireless hardware when compared to the iPhone 6s?

I have a brand-new 15" MBP w/ touchbar. It is connected to an older linksys router. Using google speed test it gets 1.2 mb/s down and 6 mb/s up. My iPhone 6s as well as my desktop PC, in the same room, each get about 12-15mb/s down and 6 mb/s.

Why is the connection speed of my brand-new $3000 MBP slower than my 2 year old iPhone?
