2015 MacBook Kernel Panic Boot Loop

Hey,

So I've been trying to get this MacBook to work. Initially, we just tried upgrading it from Yosemite to High Sierra. After that happened it started doing this boot loop and kernel panic. So I got it back down to El Capitan, but this still keeps happening. Anyone have any ideas?

It doesn't restart in Safe Mode. Just not sure what I'm looking for. I've tried erasing the drive and reinstalling the OS 3 times, but I still get that error.

Here's the report;

Install El Capitan or Later from Scratch

If possible backup your files.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
  4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

This will install the version of OS X you had installed.

No luck so far. Just got it back from the apple repair store I took it to and they thought they got going by doing an offline install of Yosemite but when I was literally doing the setup and froze and restarted. Finally got it in and was able to get the kernel panic. Good thing they didn't charge me;

0xdeadbeefdeadbeef is a value often used by software to mark memory that has been released, and the software wants to make sure no other code is still trying to use that memory memory. Or some software puts 0xdeadbeefdeadbeef before and after a memory allocation to detect if some code made modification past the end of an array.

HOWEVER, it is more likely to have 0xdeadbeefdeadbeef be the expected and some other value found.

The term zone element is most likely associated with kernel memory dymanic allocations, and the 0xdb989fa998f61606 that was expected is either a pointer or flags used by the code that is trying to keep track of in use and free memory. And it would seem another part of the code thought this was suppose to be marked as no longer in use with 0xdeadbeefdeadbeef.

A) I know what I wrote is confusing

B) I'm not even sure what I described is what is happening.

Having said that, if this was a clean Yosemite install, and I can see from the panic report, there are no 3rd party kernel extensions. So I do not know what would be causing this.

So I'm back to hardware error. And I do admit this is a total guess, because I'm stumped.

I ended up taking it back to the Apple repair store to see if they can do anything else. The tech said they would do a clean install of High Sierra and create a temp user to see if they can stress the machine. The initial hardware test didn't show anything.

Thanks for your thought on it, I think I get what you're saying.

I did email the shop the same report to see if they see anything that can help them.

Thanks again!
