Photos date change problem - dates before 2000

I have been having trouble using the adjust date and time function in Photos. It works just fine for many photos but for others when I start to enter the year when I get beyond the first two digits it replaces them with the last two digits. For example when I tried to enter 1951 it gives me a date of 51 and wants to adjust the date by a thousand plus years. This has been causing me to grind my teeth for a while. Just today I ran into the same problem and I tried putting in 1973 - got the date of 5/1/73. However when I tried putting in the year 2001 it worked just fine. I'm not sure if this is a general problem - that my Photos application won't work with any date before 2000 but it is true of the ones I sampled today.
