How is Safari driving me?

I have DuckDuckGo set as my default search engine in Safari (I also use STARTpage occasionally) in trying to avoid Google’s snooping. My question is, if I just open Safari and type the URL directly into the Safari box, do they use Google, Duck, or what to take me there?

So, if I type the URL directly into any browser, there is no search engine record (such as with Google and Yahoo) of where I go?

Neither Google nor Yahoo will have an inkling. You can also use Private browsing.
