Cursor suggestions stopping me 'click'

I have an Apple desk top. A recent upgrade has meant that instead of being able to click on buttons on a website or email (for example, to enter dates, to submit information or to forward an email) the cursor now gives me options like 'look up the word forward' or 'open in new window'. It is incredibly annoying and is stopping me being able to use the web. Any suggestions welcome please.

Thanks

I have two suggestions. Please look over Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question , at the moment we don't know anything about your system. Apple has made desktop computers for 30+ years so we need specifics!

Also you may want to consider the following:

Please post an EtreCheckreport of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it as your reply to this post.

I see three things that are of major note. First a little education though. Mac OS was designed from it's very onset to be extremely secure and if simply kept up-to-date and otherwise left alone it will run reliably for years. Mac OS does not require any antivirus, cleaning, or ANY other third party "maintenance" apps, what we see on these forums is most AV, cleaning and other "maintenance" apps tend to create more problems than they ever solved.

Your computer has Trusteer AV installed, please located the developers instructions for uninstalling it and please follow them.

Your system also has CleanMyMac installed, many experienced users on these forums consider CMM akin to malware. Again location the developers instructions for uninstalling it.

After you have removed both please restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart normally and test.

The last item I see is your system appears as there is no backup for it, this is irresponsible computing and will eventually result in lost data that CANNOT be recovered. At the very least you should be using Time Machine to backup your system. If you are not familiar with TM please review How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

Thank you for this.

I have an iMac 21.5 inch (late 2013)

Processor 2.7 Ghz intel core i5

memory 8gb 160 MHZ DDR3

Hope that helps. Currently running Mac Os High Sierra version 10.13.3

I don't mean to be difficult, but I don't know who you are and so am wary about running a system that you tell me to run in case it is harmful. How can I be sure that this is safe?

Regards

EtreCheck is safe and provided by a very trusted member of these communities. It's does not provide any confidential information about your system or yourself, it only provides some system information which is more-in depth than what you have provided. If you want to read up on EtreCheck click the link and please do so. If you don't want to install it, no problem however I don't think we can really help you though other than to make an appointment with a Genius at your local Apple Store.
