iPad suddenly requiring 6 digit passcode

i have always had a four digit passcode. When I woke up this morning my iPad required a 6 digit passcode. I can get into the iPad at all what can I do? I have serval iPads

I would simply try restarting it first and see if it behaves as expected and only requires the 4 digit code. If that fails, you will have to restore it in order to unlock it. If you have a backup, you can restore the backup after you unlock the iPad.
