Can't sync messages between MacBook and iPhone

I've been trying to get conversations on my iPhone to appear on my MacBook's Messages app but it isn't syncing. Text message forwarding is on and I am still able to send and receive messages but it won't sync older messages to keep it up to date.

How do I resolve this?
