My friend gave me her old iPhone 4s. I managed to restore it to factory settings, but I can't set it up, as it asks me to enter a password belonging to previous apple id email. My friend doesn't use it and has forgotten it. What do I do?

Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock (formerly: Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account) - https://support.apple.com/HT201441 - If an activation lock was put on a device, only the owner of the account that applied the lock can remove it.
