Trying to upgrade OS to High Sierra.

I am trying to upgrade OS 10.9.5 to High Sierra. My iMac is the 21.5 inch early 2014. Meets all the requirements to upgrade to HS. The app store shows High Sierra, but to the left of where is says free upgrade, it says an error has occurred. It won't download. Help! TIA.
