Empty Folders & Missing Files

All of my folders are empty. The folders are on the desktop but all of the files are gone. I am not tech savvy at all and have no clue how to find the files. I have tried Finder but the folders are empty there as well. Is there a way to recover or find these files or am I just out of luck? Thanks.

Do you remember the names of those files? You can try using spotlight to locate them.

Yes I have. I am thinking it has something to do with iCloud. I did something with it a few weeks ago.
