Slow computer and confused about the HD

When I look under about this Mac in the storage tab -- it says the drive is empty. when I go to utility it says the drive is full. -- The computer is very slow it is having trouble running. Had a very hard time installing High Sierra, kept crashing and getting error message. check out the images to see the story and please any suggestions is appreciated

Mac says "Disk Full" but it isn't When I try to update my Mac to the MacOS Monterey it says that my disk does not have enough free space to install it. When I go check the storage on the disk it is empty and I don't have any files, documents, etc on here so I am not sure why it says it's full. Any advice? IMAC hard drive performing as if full after freeing up space iMac hard drive is performing as if its full even though there is 405GB available: MACINTOSH HD CAPACITY 1.03 TB AVAILABLE 17GB USED 11GB MACINTOSH HD - DATA CAPACITY 1.03 TB AVAILABLE 405 GB USED 991 GB History: The hard drive suddenly filled for unknown reason. Slow mac mid 2012 My Mac is working extremely slow. Apps like Word etc. won't open at first; I have to close the program and try to open it again a few times before it turns on. It takes about half an hour before applications like this starts to work. Safari is also very slow. I ran an EtreCheck but didn't understand the issue(s). It seems like I need a new hard drive but I don't really get it?
