FCP 10.4 How do you insert chapter thumbnail images into the menu for a DVD using the share function?

Running iMac Sierra (10.13.3), FCP X10.4. In the share function, choosing DVD output, the main problem is having set the chapter markers to show a thumbnail by dragging the orange marker along the time line to the appropriate image, that image doesn't appear on the chapter list in the menu, simply the title I have given to the marker. Is there anyway of previewing the settings before burning?

Also even though my whole production is in 1080 HD 25i, the DVD program only shows 720 X 576 | 25fps. How do I alter this to the correct codec?

Unfortunately there seems little on the web about 10.4 apart from vague comments about DVD production problems not being fixed.

The selected Thumbnails for chapter markers have never worked reliably in FCP X>DVD last time I checked.

Haven't tested in OS 10.3.3 with FCP X 10.4.

I will test and report back at some time.

They do in Quicktime Player and some other media players.

Thanks for that. I have just spoken to the FCP team in the US and I was told that the DVD program was very basic and cannot really be customised with thumbnails. He suggested that I stick with DVD Studio Pro (2008 version) with my older computer if I wanted higher quality DVD authoring. Studio Pro doesn't work on OS X High Sierra. Sadly I have yet to find a really good authoring program: I have Toast 16 which does lesser job than FCP for SD DVDs but you can make HD DVDs and BR. It comes bundled with MyDVD which doesn't work on Sierra but at least I think they are working on it. I also tried iSkySoft which appears to have a really good authoring program but again doesn't work on Sierra. I asked them if were going to make one that does and the curt reply was no, not now and not in the future.

Chapter Marker Thumbnails don't work for me in DVD or Quicktime X player.

An MPEG4 movie did work correctly with thumbnails reassigned.

Looks like it is still not fool proof.

IMO: I never reassign the thumbnails because I want the thumbnail to reflect the start frame of the Chapter position, otherwise it's confusing to someone navigating the disc or whatever.

If, for example, the thumbnail shows two people inside a building and when you select it, four people are outside the building, that's kind of like a jarring jump cut.

I can see that thumbnail assigning would be great to control "reliably" in some circumstances though.

Right now it seems we take whatever FCP X dishes up. 😐
