iPhone Volume Too Loud

Hello,

Even at the lowest volume setting, my iPhone X's volume is much too loud. The alarm clock wakes my wife and my child next room over as well as myself. The volume is so loud that it is a very startling awakening. I almost knock over my lamp rushing so fast to turn off this blaring phone.

Is my phone defective or is this normal? I must turn the volume off completely at work because even the slightest sounds out of it are so loud that they can be heard in the office next to mine.
